For as long as I can remember, I was a silver jewelry girl.

If you had asked me a year ago whether I preferred sterling silver or gold, I wouldn't have hesitated. Sterling silver. It's what I naturally reached for, what I wore every day, and what I felt most comfortable in. Then I started mixing metals because it was the “in” thing. I started noticing that I was shifting toward gold… Then I had my colors analyzed.
To be completely honest, I wasn't expecting much. I had seen the videos on social media where people discover their "season," but I wasn't convinced it would make much of a difference. I figured it might be interesting, but I certainly didn't think it would change the way I looked at jewelry. I was wrong.
When my consultant draped different colors around my face, I started noticing things I had never paid attention to before. Some colors made my skin look brighter. Others made me look tired. Certain shades brought out my eyes, while others seemed to wash me out completely.
Then came the metals.
I had spent years believing silver was the obvious choice for me. But when she held gold next to my face, I could actually see the difference. My skin looked warmer. My eyes looked brighter. My complexion looked healthier.
It wasn't that silver suddenly looked bad. It was that gold looked better.
I remember laughing because I genuinely couldn't believe it. My entire identity had been wrapped up in being "a silver girl," and in a matter of minutes, I found myself looking at gold jewelry in a completely different way. That experience taught me something much bigger than whether I should wear sterling silver or gold. It reminded me that so many of us choose jewelry based on habit. We wear what we've always worn. We buy what our friends wear. We follow trends. But we rarely stop to ask what actually makes us feel our best.
One of the things I've always believed is that jewelry should be personal. That's the foundation of The Always Busy Mama. Whether it's a birthstone that reminds you of your children, a gemstone that represents strength during a difficult season, or a necklace that marks an important milestone, our jewelry should tell our story. Now, I realize that story can include personal style, too.
Finding the jewelry that complements your natural coloring isn't about following rules or throwing away everything you already own. It's simply another way to become more intentional about what you wear every day.
If your color analysis says gold suits you best, that doesn't mean you have to stop wearing silver. And if you've always loved silver, like I did, you certainly don't have to pack it away because someone handed you a color palette. I mix, and you can too!
Jewelry should always bring you joy first. But knowing which metal naturally enhances your features can be incredibly empowering. Instead of wondering why one necklace seems to make your skin glow while another feels slightly off, you begin to understand the reason behind it.
As someone who designs jewelry for women every single day, I think that's beautiful. It's about choosing the piece that makes you feel the most confident.
Ironically, after years of calling myself a silver girl, you'll probably see me wearing a lot more gold these days. And you know what? I still love sterling silver. I always will.
But now, instead of choosing jewelry based on habit, I'm choosing it with intention.
Sometimes the smallest discoveries end up changing the way we see ourselves. This one certainly did for me.
